ScreenplayCompare two drafts
See which scenes and lines changed between two drafts.
Before you start
- The screenplay has two drafts, for example Example-Short (imported) and Rewrite A.
Steps
Click Compare in the bar.
The Compare sheet has Before and After pop-ups, a Comparison view switch with Scene-only, Text-only and Text inline, Previous change and Next change, and Done.
Pick the older draft in Before and the newer draft in After.
Each pop-up lists the drafts of this screenplay.
Choose Text-only.
A Changes list on the left names each scene and what happened: Changed (1 line changed in Scene 1, 1 line changed in Scene 8) and Same (8 scenes unchanged). At the top: Summary: 0 scenes added, 0 removed, 2 changed, 0 moved, 8 unchanged. The two drafts show side by side, before and after, with new words underlined in green.
Click Next change.
The view moves to the next change, here Scene 8. Previous change goes back.
Choose Scene-only.
A table lists every scene with its Change status and how it was Matched by, for example Same scene. Use it to see added, removed and moved scenes.
Choose Text inline.
One column shows the scene with the changes marked in place, removed words and added words together. Use it to read a single scene.
If both pop-ups name the same draft, read the message.
It says Choose two different drafts to compare. Change one pop-up. Click Done to close Compare.
What you get
You saw every change between the two drafts.
Watch out for
- Compare only reads. It never changes either draft.
