ScreenplayManage drafts: open, rename, copy, compare and delete
Use the Drafts list to look after the versions of your script.
Before you start
- A screenplay is open. Two drafts make the list more useful.
Steps
Choose Screenplay Tools, then Drafts…. You can also choose Manage Drafts… in the Draft menu.
The Drafts sheet has Compare… and New Draft… at the top, one row per draft, and Done.
Look at the first draft in a new project.
The row shows Draft 1 with Current and Draft labels, an Open button, the time, and a three dots Actions menu. The list below is called Recovery History.
Look at the list when there are two drafts.
A line, Draft lineage, shows which draft came from which, here Example-Short (imported), then Rewrite A. Each row says where it came from, for example from Example-Short (imported), or Imported from Example-Short.fountain (Fountain). Click Open to switch drafts.
Click the Actions menu of the current draft.
The menu offers Rename…, New Draft From This…, Lock as Shooting Draft… and Delete….
Click the Actions menu of another draft.
The same menu has one more choice, Compare With Current, which opens Compare with that draft and the current draft.
Choose Rename… to give the draft another name.
Only the name changes. The text stays as it is.
Choose New Draft From This… on an earlier draft.
The New Draft sheet has a Create from pop-up, set to that draft, plus Draft name and Note. Use it to branch from an earlier version instead of from the current one.
Choose Delete… on a draft you no longer need and click Delete Draft.
The draft moves to Recently Deleted and can be restored. Your other drafts are not affected. The current draft cannot be deleted until another draft is made current, and a locked draft cannot be deleted while it is the only production baseline.
Click Done to close the sheet.
The same sheet opens from the Draft menu with Manage Drafts….
What you get
Your drafts are named the way you want, extra drafts are gone and you know which one is current.
Watch out for
- To delete the draft you are in, first open another draft with Open.
