Lock a draft as the Shooting Draft

Freeze the draft you will shoot from, so the production baseline cannot change by accident.

Intermediate3 stepsMac

Before you start

  • The draft you want to lock is open.

Steps

  1. Choose Screenplay Tools, then Lock as Shooting Draft….

The sheet asks: Lock this draft as the Shooting Draft? It lists Draft name, Current version, Unresolved review notes, Number of scenes and Last modified. It says that locking is a safety state, not a destructive action: the draft stays readable and exportable, and future edits start a post-lock revision.

  2. Click Lock as Shooting Draft.

A notice reads Locked “Example-Short (imported)” as the Shooting Draft. The scene numbers are now frozen for production. Click Cancel in the sheet to stop without locking.

  3. Open Screenplay Tools again.

The Lock as Shooting Draft… row is now Revisions…. The rest of the menu is the same.

What you get

The draft is locked as the Shooting Draft and Revisions… is available.

Watch out for

  • You can also lock from the Actions menu of a draft in the Drafts list.
  • Only the project owner can release the lock of a Shooting Draft, so lock when the draft is really ready.
