Start and read a revision of a locked draft

Make changes after the lock in a labelled, coloured revision and see exactly what changed.

Advanced7 stepsMac

Before you start

  • A draft is locked as the Shooting Draft.

Steps

  1. Choose Screenplay Tools, then Revisions….

The Revisions sheet shows Revision history (No revisions yet at first), the locked draft with its lock date and the label baseline, Start Revision, and a note: From Example-Short (imported). The locked draft stays exactly as it is. A second note says that only the project owner can release the lock of a shooting draft, and a button beside it does that. Close hides the sheet.

  2. Click Start Revision. Set Label, Colour, Revision date and, if you want, Reason (optional).

The sheet reads: Based on the locked draft. The locked draft never changes. Label starts as Revision A. Colour is Blue, Pink, Yellow or Green. The date is printed where the title page and header ask for it. Click Start Revision to begin, or Cancel.

  3. Look at the sheet after the revision starts.

A notice reads Started Revision A. Example-Short (imported) stays locked. The history lists Revision A · Pink with its date and Current revision. Below it, Changed scenes in Revision A says No scenes changed yet, and a line compares it with the locked draft.

  4. Close the sheet and rewrite a few lines in the revision.

The Draft menu shows Revision A. The locked draft is untouched; the changes go only into the revision.

  5. Open Revisions… again to see what changed.

The sheet lists the revision history. With changes it also lists the changed scenes and the changed pages compared with the locked pages.

  6. Open Drafts… to see the locked draft and its revision together.

The revision row shows Current and Revision A · Pink. The locked draft row shows a Locked label. The lineage line reads Example-Short (imported), then Revision A.

  7. Choose Actions on the revision and change its label and colour if you need to.

The sheet is called Revision label and colour: Printed on revision pages. The colour is metadata and export styling only. Label, Colour, Reason (optional), Cancel and Save.

What you get

A coloured revision exists, based on the locked draft, with its changed scenes and pages listed.

Watch out for

  • The colour is only a mark for printed revision pages. It does not change the script text.
