PackagesRestore a backup or open a project package
Bring a project back from a .ofbackup or .ofproject file, as a copy or by replacing the existing project.
Before you start
- You have a .ofbackup or .ofproject file on this Mac or on a disk.
Steps
Choose File > Restore Backup or Package…. On the first screen you can click Restore Backup or Package… instead.
The Open Project Package window says: Open a Full Project Package or restore a Backup Package from another disk or Mac. It accepts .ofproject (Full Project Package) and .ofbackup (Backup Package). The package is validated before anything is created.
Click Choose Package… and pick the file.
Cancel closes the window.
If the file is damaged or is not an OpenFrame package, read the message.
It says: This file isn't a valid OpenFrame package or document, so nothing was imported. Choose Package… again and pick another copy.
If the project already exists on this Mac, read the window This project already exists on this computer.
It shows the Package type, the Project, when it was Created (with the label, for example before-rewrite) and the Size with Valid. You choose between two ways. Open as Copy is the default: it creates “Night Bus (copy)” with a new identity and does not touch your existing project. Replace Existing After Backup is marked High impact: it saves a backup of the existing project first, then replaces it with the package, and the project is closed.
Keep Open as Copy and click Open as Copy.
Under Import report it says Validated · all files are included or available, and Importing never silently replaces the current project. Cancel closes the window.
Read the result.
The copy opens as Night Bus (copy). A message says Opened “Night Bus backup.ofbackup” as a copy with a new identity. The Restore Backup window reports Opened as a copy and The original project was not replaced. Close finishes.
What you get
The project from the package is open as a copy, and your original is untouched.
Watch out for
- Choose Replace Existing After Backup only when you really want the package to replace your current project.
- A damaged or foreign file is refused before anything is created.
