PackagesBack up a project
Save a recoverable copy of your project to a place you choose.
Before you start
- A project is open.
Steps
Choose File > Back Up Project….
The Create Backup window says: A recoverable copy of supported project state. Backup name is filled in for you from the project name, the date and the time, and ends in .ofbackup. Create Backup is not ready until you choose where to save.
Type a Label if you like, then click Browse… beside Save to and choose a folder.
The label is added to the file name, for example before-rewrite. A note says: Choose another disk if you can. Project backups are separate from your active project.
Read What this backup contains.
The backup holds Idea Vault, Beat Board, screenplay drafts, breakdown, catalog, production planning and comments. Below it three lines show Files stored in the project (Included), Linked external files (External, not copied) and Missing linked files (Missing).
Tick Copy linked external files into the backup (portable backup) if you want the files you linked to travel inside the backup.
The line for linked external files then changes from External, not copied to Included (copied). Leave it unticked to keep the backup small.
Click Create Backup.
Cancel closes the window without a backup.
Read Backup created. and click Show in folder to see the file.
The window tells you how many files stored in the project were included and the size of the backup. Close finishes.
What you get
A .ofbackup file is saved in the folder you chose.
Watch out for
- Save backups on a different disk when you can. A backup on the same disk is lost if the disk is lost.
- Linked files that are missing are not in the backup. Relink them in Files first if you want them kept.
