Idea Vault

Gather related items in a collection

Group items that belong together, such as Look and feel, without moving them.

Intermediate6 stepsMac

Before you start

  • The vault has at least one item.

Steps

  1. Click New Collection under Collections in the list at the left.

The New collection sheet has a Name box. It lists examples: Ending ideas, Visual References, Crazy scenes, Locations, Research, Music, Things to remember. It adds that OpenFrame never prescribes names, so use your own. Cancel and Create are at the bottom.

  2. Type a name, for example Look and feel, click Create, then click the collection in the list.

A new collection says This collection is empty. Add items to it from their menu or the selection bar.

  3. Open an item and click Add to Collection… in the inspector. You can also choose Add to Collection… from the card menu, or click Add to Collection in the selection bar.

The sheet says Collections are references. The items stay where they are. A Collection menu lists your collections with their counts, for example Look and feel (1), and New Collection…. Cancel closes it.

  4. Choose the collection, confirm, then click the collection in the list.

The collection shows its items. An item can be in a folder, in a collection and tagged at the same time.

  5. Control-click a collection in the list.

The menu has Rename… and Delete Collection.

  6. Choose Rename…, edit the Name in the Rename Collection sheet, and click Rename.

Cancel closes it and keeps the old name.

What you get

The collection lists the items you gathered. The items themselves have not moved.

Watch out for

  • A collection is a list of references. Deleting a collection does not delete its items.
