Idea Vault

Delete an item and bring it back

Delete safely, undo straight away, or restore later from Recently Deleted.

Beginner6 stepsWindows

Before you start

  • The vault has an item.

Steps

  1. Right-click an item and choose Delete, or press Del with it selected.

A message at the bottom says Deleted “name”. You can restore from Recently Deleted. Click Undo to put it back at once, or Dismiss to close the message.

  2. If you open a link to an item that was deleted, read the drawer.

It says Item not found. This item is no longer in the vault. It may have been deleted. Look in Recently Deleted.

  3. Click Recently Deleted at the top right of the vault.

The page says Items you deleted can be restored and names the vault. A table lists ITEM, TYPE, DELETED, REMOVED IN and ORIGINAL PLACE. Deleted folders and collections are listed too. A banner says Deleted items stay here for 30 days, then they are removed for good. Back to Vault returns to the vault.

  4. Click Restore on the row you want back.

The item returns to the vault and a message offers Undo.

  5. To remove an item for good, click Delete Permanently on its row.

A dialog asks Delete permanently? and says the item and any file stored with it will be removed from this computer and this can't be undone. Click Keep in Recently Deleted to stop, or Delete Permanently to confirm.

  6. When nothing is deleted, the page is empty.

It says Nothing deleted and Items you delete from the Idea Vault will appear here.

What you get

Deleted items are recoverable for 30 days, and you decide when one is removed for good.

Watch out for

  • Delete Permanently also removes a file stored with the item from this computer. Use Restore if you are unsure.
  • Items are removed for good after 30 days.
