Idea Vault

Copy an idea between the Global vault and a project

Bring a Global idea into a film, or save a project item in the Global vault.

Intermediate5 stepsWindows

Before you start

  • A project is open and the Global vault has an item.

Steps

  1. Click Global, then right-click an item and click Copy to Project.

In the Global vault the menu has Copy to Project. In a project vault the same place says Copy to Global Vault.

  2. Read the dialog and click Copy to Project.

It says: The copy is independent. Editing it will not change the Global original, and the Global original stays where it is. Copy into shows the project. Collection (optional) lets you drop the copy into one of the project's collections, or None.

  3. Read the message at the bottom.

It says Copied “name” to the Project Idea Vault. Click Undo to take the copy back.

  4. Click This Project and open the copy.

The drawer ends with: Copied from your Global Idea Vault. Editing this copy never changes the original. The copy appears with everything else in the project vault.

  5. To go the other way, right-click a project item and click Copy to Global Vault.

The dialog says the copy is independent, shows the Global Idea Vault as the destination and has Collection (optional). The same choice is in the drawer and the selection bar.

What you get

The item exists in both vaults as two independent copies.

Watch out for

  • Nothing syncs between the vaults. Edit the copy you want, and the other stays as it was.
  • If some items cannot be copied, a message says how many were copied and lists the ones that were not.
