Idea Vault

Save a web link

Keep a link and a note about why it matters.

Beginner4 stepsWindows

Before you start

  • The Idea Vault is open.

Steps

  1. Click Add, then URL.

The Add URL dialog says: Paste a link. The link itself is what matters; a preview is just a bonus. It has Link and Your note. A line at the bottom says OpenFrame stores the link as you entered it. Nothing is downloaded. Add URL stays greyed out until you type a link.

  2. If the link is not a web address, read the message under the box.

The box turns red and says That doesn't look like a web link. Correct the link and click Add URL again.

  3. Open the saved link item.

The drawer shows Title, Link with an Open button, and Your note. Open sends the link to your default browser. Here the item is called Coastal weather archive and Your note says Storm dates for the 1990s.

  4. If you edit the Link box and type something that is not a link, read the message.

The box says That doesn't look like a web link. and the drawer shows Not saved yet. with a Retry button. The old link is kept until you enter a valid one.

What you get

The link is saved as an item, and Open takes you to it in your browser.

Watch out for

  • OpenFrame does not download the page. If the page disappears online, you keep the link and your note only.
