Idea Vault

Add pictures, audio, video and other files

Put reference images, audio, video and documents in the vault.

Beginner9 stepsWindows

Before you start

  • The Idea Vault is open.

Steps

  1. Click Add, then choose Image, File, Audio file… or Video.

Each of these opens the Windows file window titled Add to the Idea Vault. Image, Audio file… and Video show only that kind of file. File shows everything. You can pick more than one file. You can also drag files from Windows File Explorer onto the vault. A message then says Drop to add a number of items to the Project Vault or Global Vault.

  2. Look at the vault after adding several kinds of file.

Each type has its own look in Grid. Images show a picture. Video shows a picture with its length, for example 0:42. Audio and voice notes show a small music or microphone mark and their length. PDF, documents (DOCX, TXT) and other files such as CSV show a labelled tile. A small second line gives the type and when it was added.

  3. Click List to see the same items as rows.

List has the columns NAME, TYPE, COLLECTION, TAGS, ADDED and MODIFIED, which makes it easy to check what each file is.

  4. Open an image item.

The drawer shows the picture, its file name and size, and an Open externally button. A chip says Stored in the vault, with the note Kept inside this project. The fields are Title, Caption and Source link. Here Caption holds Square crop, east jetty.

  5. Open a video item and press play in the drawer.

Video plays in the drawer with its own controls. It has the same Title, Caption and Source link fields. Open externally opens the file in your default program.

  6. Open an audio item.

An audio file shows a player with its length, then Title, Caption and Source link.

  7. Open a PDF item.

A PDF shows a PDF tile and the line PDFs open in your PDF app. Click Open externally to read it there. The drawer keeps the Title, Caption and Source link.

  8. Open a document item such as a .docx file.

A document shows a tile with its file type and the line Preview isn't available for this file type, but it is stored safely. Use Open externally to read it.

  9. Open a plain file item such as a .csv list.

Files that OpenFrame cannot show are stored the same way: a tile, its size, Open externally and the same fields. Here the item is Crew contacts.

What you get

Your files are in the vault with their own tiles and drawers.

Watch out for

  • If some files in a batch fail, a dialog reads a number of items added and a number that could not be added. Successful items are kept. Click Try Failed Item Again, or Done.
  • Look at the chip in the drawer: Stored in the vault means a copy is inside the project. Linked file means the item points to a file that stays where it was on this computer.
