Story and Beat BoardWork in the Outline view
Read and rearrange the whole story as an indented list.
Before you start
- The Beat Board has content.
Steps
Click Outline.
Acts are bold bars with their scene count. Inside each are sequences, scenes and beats, each marked Sequence:, Scene: or Beat:. An H at the right means the scene has a heading. A coloured dot marks a beat's colour. The PARKING LOT and its count are at the bottom. Drag the handles at the left to reorder. Click an arrow to collapse an act or a sequence.
Click the ... button at the right of an act.
The menu has Rename, Edit note…, Add Sequence, Add Scene, Add Beat, Move Up, Move Down and Delete.
Right-click a scene.
The menu is the same as on the Board: Open (Enter), Duplicate (Ctrl+D), Move…, Send to Parking Lot, Convert to Screenplay Scene, Copy as Beat and Delete (Del).
Open a scene to edit it.
The same card drawer opens at the right, with Scene heading, Short description, Long description and Notes.
Click Add Act at the bottom of the list, type a name and press Enter.
A box labelled Act title opens at the end of the list.
What you get
You can read and edit the story as a list.
Watch out for
- The Outline and the Board show the same data. A change in one appears in the other.
