Before you start

  • The schedule has scenes.

Steps

  1. Click a scene strip on the Board, or a row on the List.

The scene details panel opens on the right, labelled SCHEDULED SCENE with the scene number. It shows the heading, the scene summary, Scheduled (the day), Location and Cast. A location read from the heading says (from the heading), and a scene with no location says Missing. Cast lists the actors confirmed in Breakdown, or None confirmed.

  2. Click the Estimated shooting time box and type a time, for example 1h 30m or just a number of minutes.

The note under it says: Entered by you. Never guessed. The value saves when you click away or press Enter, and a day adds up its scenes' estimates. A scene with no estimate shows Missing.

  3. Click Start time and type a clock time, for example 14:30. Leave it empty to follow the day's order.

Start time appears only for a scene that is on a day. The box shows the time estimated from the day's order as a grey hint (here 08:00). Enter a time to fix it. The scene never moves because of it.

  4. Click Page count override if the screenplay's count is not what you plan to shoot, and type pages such as 3/8 or 1 2/8.

Under the box: From the screenplay: 3/8. Leave empty to use it. A page count you override shows an asterisk after it on the strip and in the list.

  5. If you type something that is not a time, for example abc, in Estimated shooting time, read the message under the box.

It says: Enter the estimate as minutes or e.g. 1h 30m. The value is not saved until it is valid.

  6. If Start time is not a clock time, for example late, read the message.

It says: Enter the start time like 14:30, or leave it empty to follow the day's order.

  7. If Page count override is not a page count, for example abc, read the message.

It says: Enter pages like 1 2/8 or 3/8. Pages are counted in eighths, as in a screenplay page count.

  8. Open a scene on Shoot Day 1, for example Scene 1.

It shows the same fields. Its Start time hint is Estimated from the day's order: 16:30, because Day 1 has a shooting start of 16:30. Cast reads None confirmed when no actor is confirmed for the scene in Breakdown.

  9. Open a scene that is in the Unscheduled pool, for example Scene 13.

An unscheduled scene has Estimated shooting time and Page count override but no Start time and no Remove from Day button, because it is not on a day.

What you get

The scene has the estimate, start time and page count you entered, and the day totals use them.

Watch out for

  • The scene heading and number come from the screenplay and are edited there. The panel says so at the bottom: Scheduling never changes the script.
  • Open in Screenplay and Open in Breakdown at the bottom of the panel take you to the scene in those tutorials. Remove from Day sends a scheduled scene back to Unscheduled.
