See where your files are kept and move the project

Read the folders OpenFrame uses and reach the buttons that open, move or back up your work.

Intermediate3 stepsWindows

Before you start

  • A project is open.

Steps

  1. On the Project settings tab, click Move or back up… in the Stored on this computer card.

This opens the Storage tab. You can also click Storage in the tab row.

  2. On the Storage tab, read each section. The picture shows the same panel from the Settings dialog on Application Home.

YOUR OPENFRAME LIBRARY is the folder to back up. FOLDER FOR NEW PROJECTS has Change Folder…. GLOBAL IDEA VAULT has its own back up, export, restore and move buttons. APP DATA holds settings, the recent project list, OpenFrame AI's files and logs, and is not your work. Inside a project the tab also shows a This project section with Open Folder and Move Project…. Open Folder shows the project folder in File Explorer.

  3. To move the open project, click Move Project…, choose the new parent folder and read the confirmation.

The confirmation explains that the project closes for a moment, is copied and checked, then opens from the new place, and only then is the old folder removed. If anything goes wrong it stays where it is. Linked files outside the project are not moved. Click Move Project to go ahead, or Cancel.

What you get

You know which folder holds what, and the project is in the place you chose if you moved it.

Watch out for

  • Back up the library folder. OpenFrame keeps everything on this computer and has no cloud copy.
  • Changing the folder for new projects does not move the projects you already have.
