Production Plan: overview and catalogRead the Production Overview
See how far preparation has come and jump to the thing that needs work.
Before you start
- A project is open and has a Production Source. If it has none, follow Choose the production source first.
Steps
Click Production in the left rail. The Overview tab is the first tab and opens by default.
The page is titled Production and asks: What do I need to do next to prepare the shoot? The tab strip shows all thirteen Production tabs, with Overview underlined.
Read the SCRIPT STATUS tile.
It shows the name of the draft production is based on, for example Second Draft, and under it the screenplay title, whether the draft is locked and the words used as Production Source. A locked draft also shows a Locked label. Click the tile to open the Breakdown.
Read the BREAKDOWN PROGRESS tile.
The big number is scenes marked complete out of all scenes, for example 1 / 36. Under it you see how many scenes have confirmed elements and how many suggestions are waiting for you to review. The bar below fills as scenes are marked complete. Click the tile to open the Breakdown.
Read UNRESOLVED LOCATIONS, UNRESOLVED CAST and CATALOG.
Unresolved locations counts places still at Idea or Shortlisted, out of all locations. Unresolved cast counts characters who have no actor yet, out of all characters. Catalog counts the reusable production items. Click a tile to open Locations, Cast & Crew or Catalog.
Look at the NEEDS ATTENTION list and click Open or Review on a line.
In the picture one line reads Needs casting and names the characters without an actor, with an Open button that goes to Cast & Crew. Other lines can appear: Newer revision available, scenes that need breakdown review after the script changed, new scenes that need breakdown, and breakdown elements kept from scenes that are no longer in the Production Source. Each has a button that opens the place to deal with it.
What you get
You know the state of the script, breakdown, locations, cast and catalog, and you have opened the first thing to fix.
Watch out for
- Overview only reads the project. Nothing you see on it is a required step, and you can work in any order.
- When the project has no source, every number is 0 and the page asks you to choose a draft. See Choose the production source.
