Production Plan: overview and catalogMove production to a newer draft
Switch the Production Source to another draft after reviewing what would change.
Before you start
- The project already has a Production Source and at least one other screenplay draft.
Steps
On the Overview tab, click Change Production Source. If a newer revision exists, you can instead click Review on the Newer revision available line in NEEDS ATTENTION.
That line says the newer draft is newer and that Production stays on the current draft until you review the update. Nothing moves by itself.
In the dialog, click a draft other than the current one.
The current source shows a Current source label and a tick. The button at the bottom right reads Review Production Update and is greyed out while the current draft is selected. It turns on when you pick a different draft. Cancel closes the dialog.
Click Review Production Update.
A review window opens, titled Update Production from the draft name. It says Production is currently based on the old draft and that nothing changes until you confirm. It shows four counts: Scenes added, Scenes removed, Text changed and Heading changed, then a line saying how many scenes moved, need a manual match or are unchanged. Below is a list of changed scenes, each with a label: Needs Breakdown for a new scene, Review for a changed scene and Historical for a removed scene. The list shows eight rows and then says how many more there are.
Decide: click Update Production Baseline to apply the change, Keep Production on the old draft name to stay, or Dismiss to close the window. If the list has more than eight changes, click Review Changes First to show them all.
A note at the bottom says nothing is deleted: every breakdown element is kept, removed scenes keep their breakdown as history, and changed scenes are flagged for review. After you apply the update a message says Production now uses the new draft and how many new scenes need breakdown.
Back on the Overview, read NEEDS ATTENTION.
New scenes appear as a line saying they need breakdown, and changed scenes as a line saying they need breakdown review. Click Open or Review to go to the Breakdown and deal with them.
What you get
Production uses the new draft. Old breakdown work is kept, and the scenes that changed are marked for review.
Watch out for
- Nothing is deleted when you update. Removed scenes keep their breakdown as history, and you can archive those leftovers later.
- The review window is not shown in a captured picture. The text above is what it contains.
- Your screenplay itself is never edited by this update.
