Files

Add a note to a file and rename how it is shown

Say why a file matters, and give it a clearer name inside OpenFrame.

Beginner4 stepsWindows

Before you start

  • At least one file is in the project.

Steps

  1. Click a file in the list, or choose Details from its row menu.

The details drawer opens on the right, headed FILE and the name. It shows Name, Folder, Where (Stored in project, the type and size, and a note that a copy is stored inside the project folder and travels with the project), Notes, the original file name and when it was added and changed. At the bottom: Delete and Open. Close with the x at the top.

  2. Click the Notes box and type a note, for example who needs a signed copy.

The box asks: What is this file, and why does it matter? Notes are saved as you type and the search box also looks in them.

  3. Edit the Name box, for example add v2 at the end, and click away.

Under the box: The name shown in OpenFrame. The file itself is not renamed. A message says Renamed file to followed by the new name, with Undo. The row shows the new name and the details keep Original file name. You can also press F2 on a selected row to edit the name.

  4. Use the Folder box to move the file to another folder, or leave it.

The Folder list has Top level and every folder you made.

What you get

The file shows your name and note. The file on disk is unchanged.

Watch out for

  • The Name box changes only the name OpenFrame shows. It does not rename the file in File Explorer or in a project package.
