Breakdown

Review a scene whose script changed

Decide what to do with a scene's breakdown after the screenplay text changed.

Intermediate4 stepsWindows

Before you start

  • The screenplay changed after the breakdown of a scene began, and the Production Source picked up the change.

Steps

  1. Look for the yellow Needs review chip on the scene row, and the yellow banner in the panel.

The banner reads, for example, Scene 37 changed in Second Draft. Review Breakdown. and has a Review button. The list footer shows Needs Review followed by a count. Your elements are still there. Nothing is removed when the script changes.

  2. To see every changed scene at once, click Needs Review (N) at the foot of the scene list.

The page is titled Needs Review and says: Scenes whose script changed after production planning began. Each row gives the scene number and heading, what changed and when, how many elements are kept, a yellow chip (Heading changed or Text changed) and a Review button. Back to Breakdown returns to the scene. When nothing needs review, the page says Nothing to review. Every planned scene matches the Production Source text.

  3. Click Review in the panel or in a row of the Needs Review list.

The dialog is titled Scene 37 changed. Review breakdown differences. It says: The screenplay changed after this scene was broken down. Your production data has not been changed. If the heading changed, a yellow note shows the old and new heading. A list shows Removed candidate and Added candidate entries with the category and the quoted words, or says No new or removed likely elements were found in the changed text. IMPACT counts New elements suggested and Existing elements requiring review, with their names, and may add planning notes.

  4. Choose one of the three buttons.

Review Manually closes the dialog and changes nothing, so the scene stays flagged. Keep Production Data marks the scene as reviewed and keeps everything as it is. Apply Suggested Update adds the new suggestions for you to review and keeps every existing element. Each action shows a message with an Undo link.

What you get

The scene is reviewed, and its Needs review chip is gone, or you left it flagged to come back to.

Watch out for

  • Choosing Apply Suggested Update does not accept the new suggestions. They wait in the panel like any other suggestion.
  • Your confirmed elements are never deleted by a script change. Remove them yourself if they no longer apply.
