Breakdown

Find your way around the Breakdown page

Know what each part of the page shows and move from scene to scene.

Beginner4 stepsWindows

Before you start

  • The project has a Production Source.

Steps

  1. Read the blue bar across the top.

It says which draft production uses, for example Second Draft of the screenplay's title, whether it is a Draft or Locked, how many scenes it has and which scene is open. A small lock icon shows when the draft is locked.

  2. Look at the scene list on the left. Click a scene to open it, or click a row and press Up Arrow or Down Arrow.

The chip next to Scenes shows the number of scenes, or 4 of 36 when a filter is on. The line under it counts finished scenes, for example 1 of 36 complete. Each row shows small category marks for the kinds of element already in the scene, a green tick when the breakdown is complete and an amber chip such as 8 suggested when suggestions are waiting. Hover over a category mark to read what the category means.

  3. Read the script in the middle.

It is the scene exactly as written, one page, with the scene number repeated on both sides of the heading. You cannot type into it. Dashed yellow underlines mark words behind a suggestion. Solid underlines in a category colour mark words you tagged. Hover over underlined words to see the category and name. Hold Ctrl and turn the mouse wheel to zoom the page between 60 percent and 200 percent. The zoom is kept for next time.

  4. Read the breakdown on the right.

The title says Scene 1 breakdown. The chips under it give INT or EXT, the time of day and the set name, for example EXT, DAY and Rayapuram Bus Stand. The yellow banner counts suggestions. Below are the categories that have content, then Quick reuse, Add Element and Suggest Elements. Click the small arrow beside a category to fold or open it.

What you get

You can say what each part of the page is for and open any scene.

Watch out for

  • The categories are Cast, Extras / Background, Location / Set, Props, Wardrobe, Vehicles, Hair / Makeup, Special Effects, VFX, Sound and Animals. The list is fixed.
