StoryOpen a scene card and fill in its details
Add a scene heading, a short description, a long description and notes to a scene card.
Before you start
- The Beat Board has a scene card.
Steps
Control-click a scene card and choose Open.
The menu lists Open, Duplicate, Move…, Move Up, Move Down, Move to Previous Act, Move to Next Act, Send to Parking Lot, Convert to Screenplay Scene, Copy as Beat and Delete.
Read the inspector that opens on the right.
The top shows SCENE CARD and the card's name. Under it is the path, for example Act One: The last bus › Missing the bus. The fields are Scene heading, Short description, Long description and Notes. The heading box shows an example, EXT. OLD RAILWAY STATION - NIGHT. The buttons at the foot are Duplicate, Send to Parking Lot, Convert to Screenplay Scene and Delete. Close at the top right shuts the panel.
Type a heading such as EXT. BUS STOP - NIGHT in Scene heading, and write in Long description.
The heading is optional now, but it is required before the card becomes a screenplay scene. Long description is for scene-development material, such as what changes and what each character wants, and takes up to 1,00,000 characters. Cards can show its first lines through Card Display. Saved at the foot confirms your changes are stored.
Look at the board behind the inspector.
The card now shows a small H, because it has a heading. The board updates as you type.
What you get
The card carries a heading, a description and notes, ready to be built into a screenplay scene.
Watch out for
- OpenFrame never makes up a scene heading. Write your own, such as INT. POLICE STATION - NIGHT, before you build.
