Add a character

Start the character directory with a name, and optionally a role, an image and a short description.

Beginner5 stepsMac

Before you start

  • A project is open.

Steps

  1. Click Characters in the bar across the top, then Add Character.

The page says No characters yet. It describes Characters as a lightweight directory, whose most useful feature is the list of scenes each character appears in. The right side says Create your first character. Name is all you need. Role, image and notes are optional.

  2. In the New Character sheet, click the Name box.

The fields are Name, Role / title, Image (Choose image…) and Short description. Cancel closes the sheet.

  3. Type a name, for example Kiran, then a role and a short description if you like, and click Create Character.

Only the name is needed. The picture shows Kiran with the role A ticket inspector on the night route and a short description.

  4. If a character with a similar name exists, read the warning.

It says Possible match: a character named KIRAN (Knows every regular by name) already exists. Use Existing opens the one you have. Create Another Character Anyway adds a second one.

  5. Look at the new character.

A message at the bottom reads Added character Kiran, with Undo and Dismiss. The list on the left shows the name, the role and a scene count.

What you get

The character is in the directory, with its role and description.

Watch out for

  • OpenFrame warns about a possible match so you do not add the same person twice.
