Production Plan

Assign an actor to a character

Link a real person to a character from the script so the plan knows who plays whom.

Beginner5 stepsMac

Before you start

  • A screenplay draft is the Production Source, with characters in it.

Steps

  1. Choose Cast & Crew in the section pop-up. Stay on Cast.

The page says: Who is involved and what role do they have? A small-team directory with no payroll and no contracts. Before characters exist it says No cast yet. Characters from the Production Source appear here automatically. Add the actor who plays each one, with a contact and availability notes.

  2. Under Needs casting, click Assign next to a character such as KIRAN.

The table has the columns Person, Character, Contact and Scenes. Characters without an actor sit under Needs casting and Unassigned, with their scene counts, here 7 and 6. Each has its own Assign button.

  3. In the Add Person sheet, type the actor's name in Person.

The sheet says: Link the real person to the character they play. Below Person is Choose a character, listing each character with its scene count and whether it has an actor. Casting has Primary actor and Alternate / double. Assign is off until the sheet is complete.

  4. Type the actor's name, for example Meera Iyer, keep the character chosen and Casting on Primary actor, and click Assign.

A note says: One character has one primary actor by default. Alternates or double-casting can be added when needed. Choose Alternate / double when the person is a second actor for the character.

  5. Look at the list.

Meera Iyer now appears with KIRAN and 7 scenes, and a message says Meera Iyer plays KIRAN, with Undo and Dismiss. Characters without an actor stay under Needs casting.

What you get

The actor is linked to the character and shows in the cast list.

Watch out for

  • Click Undo in the message if you linked the wrong person.
