Beginner5 stepsMac

Before you start

  • The Idea Vault is open. Which Idea Vault is set to the vault you want.

Steps

  1. Click Quick Capture in the toolbar, or press Shift-Command-N. You can also open Add and choose Quick Capture at the bottom of the menu.

Add lists Note, Image…, URL…, File…, Audio / Voice Note…, Audio File…, Video… and Quote, then a divider, then Quick Capture.

  2. Read the top of the Quick Capture sheet.

It says Saving to Night Bus · Project Idea Vault, so you can check the destination before you type. In the Global Idea Vault it names that vault instead. The Idea box is ready for typing. The hint under it reads Return to save · Shift+Return for a new line · Esc to cancel.

  3. Type your idea, for example A bus that never reaches its stop. Press Return, or click Save.

Return saves. Shift-Return starts a new line inside the idea. Cancel, or Escape, closes the sheet and saves nothing.

  4. Read the notice at the bottom: Saved to the Project Idea Vault.

The notice has Undo and Dismiss. Click Undo straight away if you saved by mistake. The count next to All items goes up by one and the idea is now a card.

  5. Look at the items area.

The new idea sits among your other items as a note card. The picture shows a vault with notes, a link and quotes in the Grid view.

What you get

Your idea is saved as a note in the vault you chose.

Watch out for

  • Return saves. If you wanted a second line, press Shift-Return instead.
  • Check Which Idea Vault before you capture. The sheet names the vault it saves to.
