Idea Vault

Save a web link with a note

Keep a link to a page, with your own words about why it matters.

Beginner5 stepsMac

Before you start

  • The Idea Vault is open.

Steps

  1. Click Add, then choose URL….

The Add menu is the same list as in every other workflow here.

  2. In the Add URL sheet, click the Link box and type or paste the address.

The sheet says: Paste a link. The link itself is what matters; a preview is just a bonus. The Link box shows https://… as a hint. Add URL stays greyed out until the link is valid. Your note is an optional box for your own words. A line under the boxes says: OpenFrame stores the link as you entered it. Nothing is downloaded.

  3. If you type something that is not a web address, such as night bus timetable, read the message under the Link box.

It says That doesn't look like a web link. Type a full address that starts with https:// to clear it.

  4. Type a full address, for example https://example.com/night-bus-routes, and add a line in Your note. Click Add URL.

Cancel closes the sheet and saves nothing. The note here reads The real timetable for the 3 a.m. route.

  5. Open the new link card to see it in the inspector.

The heading says URL and shows the address. Pin, Rename, Move and Copy to Global Vault are at the top. Title says Leave blank to keep it untitled. Link shows the address with an Open button that opens it in your web browser. Your note holds your words and saves automatically. Below are the Research flag, Collections with Add to Collection…, and Tags.

What you get

A link card is in the vault with your note, ready to open in your browser.

Watch out for

  • OpenFrame keeps the link as you typed it and does not download the page.
  • Add URL stays greyed out until the address looks like a web link.
