BreakdownChoose the screenplay draft for production
Set the draft that Breakdown, shot lists, storyboards and the schedule are based on.
Before you start
- The project has a screenplay, written or imported.
Steps
Click Breakdown in the sidebar. The first time, the page says Choose a screenplay source to begin the breakdown. Click Select Source.
The page explains: Open a screenplay to begin breaking down scenes. Choose the draft that production should be based on. If you have no screenplay in the project yet, click Import Screenplay instead. A message at the bottom, for example Imported screenplay “LOST PROPERTY”, confirms an import and has Undo and Dismiss.
In the sheet Handing the script over to production., click the draft you want under Screenplay drafts.
Each draft shows its name and whether it is locked, with its number of scenes, for example Not locked · 10 scenes. The chosen draft has a tick. Below the list, OpenFrame will create or initialise says what happens: Breakdown scenes, one per screenplay scene and numbered automatically, the Production catalog, and the scene list used by shot lists, storyboards and the schedule. A line repeats: You will not recreate any scene by hand. Your screenplay is not changed.
If you want to note why you chose this draft, type it in the box under the list, for example The table read draft.
The box is for the reason for the choice. Cancel closes the sheet and changes nothing.
Click Set as Production Source.
The breakdown opens on Scene 1. A message says Production Source set to “Example-Short (imported)”. Your screenplay is not changed. Click Undo in the message to take the choice back, or Dismiss to close it.
What you get
Breakdown shows one row for every scene of the draft you chose, with Scene 1 open.
Watch out for
- Choose the draft production should really be based on. You can change it later with Change source.
- Breakdown never edits the screenplay. Tags mark words in a scene but do not change the script text.
