Add a relationship and view the relationship map

Record how two characters are connected and see it as a map.

Intermediate5 stepsWindows

Before you start

  • The project has at least two characters.

Steps

  1. Select a character and click Add Relationship in the detail panel.

The panel's RELATIONSHIPS list shows each relationship as name, the relationship and the other name, with a note in brackets and a small x to remove it.

  2. In the Add Relationship dialog, check the first Character, type the relationship in is, and choose the second Character.

The first Character is already the one you chose. Type your own wording or pick one of the suggestions under Type your own, or pick one: father of, mother of, son of, daughter of, sibling of, partner of, friend of, colleague of, mentor of, rival of and enemy of. The button stays unavailable until the relationship is typed and the two characters differ.

  3. Add a Note (optional) if you want, then click Add Relationship.

Here the dialog shows LAKSHMI, friend of, VENKAT RAO and the note Met on the coast road. A message says Added relationship, with Undo.

  4. Click Relationship Map.

The map is titled with the character's name and says Only this character's direct relationships. Choose a name to see theirs. The character is the orange node and each relationship is an arrow with its wording. A list under the map repeats them with a remove x. Click Back to Characters to return.

  5. Click Whole film map.

The page is titled Character relationships and says Every character with a relationship, the most connected first. Choose a name to see just their relationships. Each name is a button, Show relationships of that character. Add Relationship is here too.

What you get

The relationship is recorded and shows on the map.

Watch out for

  • If no relationships exist the map says No relationships yet. Add a relationship such as “father of” or “colleague of”.
