Files

Switch between List and Grid and search your files

See the files as a table or as tiles, and narrow them with a word.

Beginner4 stepsWindows

Before you start

  • At least one file is in the project.

Steps

  1. Look at the List view. Click List or Grid beside the Search files box to switch.

List is a table with NAME, TYPE, WHERE, MODIFIED and ACTIONS, and an Open button on every row. The files here are Example-Feature.fountain, Location release - bus stand.txt, Crew contacts.csv and Tower survey notes.md. The type column reads Screenplay, Text or Spreadsheet.

  2. Click Grid.

Each file is a tile with a short type label (FOUN, TXT, CSV, MD), the file name and Stored in project. Click a tile to select the file and open its details. The row menu and Open button are in the list only, so use the details drawer or switch back to List for those.

  3. Type a word in Search files, for example crew.

The list narrows as you type. The search looks at the file name, the original file name, your notes and the type. Only Crew contacts.csv remains. The folder counts on the left do not change.

  4. If nothing matches, the page says No files match followed by what you typed.

Here zzzz matches nothing. Clear the box to see all files again.

What you get

You can find a file by name or note and see it in the view you prefer.

Watch out for

  • Search on this page looks only at the files of the folder that is selected. Select All files to look in every folder.
  • To search across the whole project, use the search box at the top of the window.
