Rename or delete a folder

Change a folder name, or remove a folder without losing the files inside.

Intermediate4 stepsWindows

Before you start

  • A folder exists and is selected in the folder panel.

Steps

  1. With the folder selected, click Rename at the bottom of the folder panel.

You can also open the folder's ... menu in the panel and choose Rename Folder.

  2. In the Rename Folder dialog, change the Folder name * and click Rename.

The name is required. Cancel closes the dialog without a change. A message says Renamed folder to followed by the new name, with Undo.

  3. To delete the folder, click Delete at the bottom of the panel.

The dialog asks Delete folder “Tour Folder”? It says: Files and folders inside it move to the top level. No files are deleted. The folder goes to Recently Deleted. Cancel keeps the folder.

  4. Click Delete Folder.

A message says Deleted folder “Tour Folder” with Undo. The folder leaves the panel and its files are at the top level.

What you get

The folder has its new name, or it is gone and its files are at the top level.

Watch out for

  • Deleting a folder never deletes the files inside it. They move to the top level.
  • A deleted folder can be brought back from Recently Deleted for 30 days.
