See and change keyboard shortcuts

Find a command, read its keys, add or remove a key, or go back to the defaults.

Intermediate4 stepsWindows

Before you start

  • The Settings dialog is open.

Steps

  1. Open Settings and click the Keyboard shortcuts tab.

The tab lists 25 commands in groups: General, Project list, Idea Vault, Screenplay and Screenplay elements. The columns are COMMAND, DEFAULT, CURRENT, CONFLICT and ACTIONS. Under each command's name is where to find it on screen. The Conflict column reads None when no other command uses the same keys.

  2. Type a word, for example save, in the Filter commands box.

The list narrows to the matching commands, and the count above it updates. Here only Save now remains, with Ctrl+S.

  3. Click Add on a command, then press the keys you want.

The row says: Press the new keys… (Esc cancels). Press Esc to leave without a change. Each key also has a Remove button, and Restore default puts back the command's own keys.

  4. To undo all your changes, click Restore all defaults, then click Done.

Restore all defaults resets every command. Restore default on one row resets just that command.

What you get

Commands use the keys you chose, or the defaults if you restored them.

Watch out for

  • Some commands have two keys, for example Redo with Ctrl+Y and Ctrl+Shift+Z. Remove one without losing the other.
