Application Home

Change the mode and theme

Switch between Light, Dark and System, and pick one of the built-in themes.

Beginner5 stepsWindows

Before you start

  • You are on Application Home.

Steps

  1. Click the Settings gear at the top right. The Settings dialog opens on the Appearance tab.

The dialog says: These settings apply to OpenFrame on this computer. Open a project to change its own settings. The tabs are Appearance, Keyboard shortcuts, Storage and About and support. Done closes the dialog.

  2. Under MODE, click Light, Dark or System.

System follows Windows. A note says Light and Dark work with every theme.

  3. Under THEME, click a theme.

There are seventeen: OpenFrame Default, Black and White, Studio Amber, Slate Noir, Midnight Reel, Teal & Orange, Courier & Cream, Cutting Room, Velvet Curtain, Sunset Boulevard, Arctic Frame, Neon Reel, Location Scout, Desert Dune, Colorist Neutral, Silver Screen and High Contrast. Each has a one-line description, for example Studio Amber is warm and neutral, and High Contrast has hard black and white edges with a signal-yellow accent. Themes change colours only. Your screenplay pages, PDFs and printed call sheets always stay black on white.

  4. To add a theme from a file, click Import Theme File…, or click Paste Theme… to paste one.

My Themes lists the themes you have added. It says No imported themes yet until you add one. Theme files are small .json files, for example from the OpenFrame website.

  5. Click Done.

Your choice is kept on this computer.

What you get

OpenFrame uses the mode and theme you picked.

Watch out for

  • A theme never changes how a printed or exported document looks. Pages and PDFs stay black on white.
