Add a relationship between two characters

Record how two characters are connected, with an optional note.

Beginner5 stepsMac

Before you start

  • The project has at least two characters.

Steps

  1. Select a character and click Add Relationship under Relationships.

Under Relationships the page says No relationships yet until you add one.

  2. In the Add Relationship sheet, read the sentence: Character, is, Relationship, Character.

The first Character menu is already the one you selected. The second Character menu is the person you are linking to. A Note (optional) box is below. Cancel closes the sheet.

  3. Click Suggestions, or type your own wording in the Relationship box.

The suggestions are father of, mother of, son of, daughter of, sibling of, partner of, friend of, colleague of, mentor of, rival of and enemy of. You can write any other wording instead.

  4. Pick the second character, for example DEVI, add a note such as Older by four years, and click Add Relationship.

The picture shows KIRAN is sibling of DEVI with the note.

  5. Look at Relationships on the character.

The relationship is listed as the first name, then the wording, then the second name, with the note in brackets. A message reads Added relationship, with Undo and Dismiss.

What you get

The relationship is listed on the character.

Watch out for

  • Relationships are notes for you. They do not change the screenplay.
