Production Plan

Create a storyboard for a scene or a standalone one

Start a storyboard, either tied to a screenplay scene or free-standing.

Beginner4 stepsMac

Before you start

  • Production is open. A screenplay draft is the Production Source if you want a scene storyboard.

Steps

  1. Choose Storyboards in the section pop-up.

The page asks: What will the audience see? With nothing yet it says No storyboards yet. Storyboards usually belong to a screenplay scene, so its heading comes from the script. You can also start a standalone storyboard now. The screenplay never needs shot directions. The top right has Export, New Storyboard and Add Panel.

  2. Click New Storyboard. If you have no scene to choose, leave Name empty and click Create Storyboard.

The sheet says Give the storyboard a name, or choose a scene. A standalone storyboard needs a name.

  3. When the project has scenes, open the Scene pop-up.

A note says: The scene heading and identity come from the screenplay. Name (optional) says: Optional. Defaults to the scene heading. Click Create Storyboard.

  4. Choose a scene, or choose No scene (standalone storyboard).

The pop-up lists every scene by number and heading, with No scene (standalone storyboard) at the top.

What you get

A storyboard exists for the scene you chose, or as a standalone one.

Watch out for

  • A scene storyboard takes its heading from the script. You never type the heading twice.
