Add a file by copying it into the project

Keep a copy of a document inside the project so it always travels with it.

Beginner3 stepsMac

Before you start

  • A project is open and you have a file on your Mac.

Steps

  1. Click Add File. Or drag a file from Finder onto the page.

Dragging from Finder is the quickest way: the page says Drag files here from Finder to add them.

  2. Choose Copy into project… from the Add File menu, then pick the file in the window that opens.

The menu offers two choices: Copy into project… and Link to file…. Copy into project… stores a copy inside the project folder.

  3. Look at the new row.

The file is listed with its type (here Text), the green label Stored in project and the date. A message at the bottom says Added “Depot permit letter.txt”. The folders panel now counts 1 file.

What you get

A copy of the file is stored in the project.

Watch out for

  • A stored file is a copy. Changing the original on your Mac afterwards does not change the copy in the project.
