Story and Beat Board

Set ideas aside in the Parking Lot

Keep cards and beats you might use later without deleting them, and bring them back.

Beginner4 stepsWindows

Before you start

  • The Beat Board has a card.

Steps

  1. Right-click a card and choose Send to Parking Lot.

The card leaves the act and appears in the PARKING LOT panel with a count. A message says it moved to the Parking Lot, with Undo. Parking Lot cards are left out when you build a screenplay.

  2. Look at the PARKING LOT panel at the right of the board.

It holds the parked items with Beat and Scene buttons to add new ones straight into it. Its hatched background shows it is outside the story.

  3. Right-click a parked card and choose Restore to Story.

The parked menu has Open, Duplicate, Move…, Restore to Story, Convert to Screenplay Scene, Copy as Beat and Delete. Restore to Story puts the card back where it came from. Convert to Screenplay Scene is not available while a card is parked.

  4. Or open the parked card and click Restore to Story at the bottom of its drawer.

The drawer shows Parking Lot under the title in place of an act. Its buttons are Duplicate, Restore to Story, Convert to Screenplay Scene and Delete.

What you get

Unused ideas are parked and can come back at any time.

Watch out for

  • Send ideas from the Idea Vault straight to the Parking Lot with Send to Story. See Send an idea to the Beat Board.
