Story and Beat Board

Make a written screenplay follow the board order

Reorder the scenes of an existing screenplay to match the Beat Board.

Advanced4 stepsWindows

Before you start

  • A screenplay exists whose scenes are linked to Beat Board cards.

Steps

  1. Click the ... button and choose Apply Board Order to Screenplay….

The dialog is titled Apply this order to the written screenplay? It warns that reordering the cards changes the screenplay scene order, and that some of these scenes may already be written.

  2. Read what the dialog says about your screenplay.

When the order already matches it says the draft already follows the Beat Board order. When it does not, it lists each scene that would move, for example Screenplay Scene 4 would become Scene 2, and adds that production planning is not reordered automatically. Apply is only available when there is something to change. Cancel closes without a change.

  3. If the draft is locked, read the message.

It says the draft is locked as the shooting draft and tells you to start a revision in the Screenplay workspace to change scene order. Apply stays unavailable.

  4. If there is no screenplay, read the message.

It says There is no screenplay yet. Use Build Screenplay to create one from the Beat Board.

What you get

The screenplay scenes follow the order of the board, or you know why they cannot yet.

Watch out for

  • Applying changes the screenplay's scene order. A message after it offers Undo.
