Screenplay

Check spelling and fix a word

See underlined words, correct them, add them to your dictionary or ignore them, and turn the checker on or off.

Beginner3 stepsWindows

Before you start

  • A screenplay is open.

Steps

  1. Click View and more at the right end of the toolbar and look at Check spelling.

A tick shows the spell checker is on. Click Check spelling to turn it off or on. Spelling and languages… opens the writing settings, where you choose the languages to check.

  2. Look for words with a wavy red underline.

The underline marks words the dictionary does not know, for example kilometres in the picture. Spell check uses dictionaries installed in Windows. Names and invented words may be underlined; they are not changed unless you choose a suggestion.

  3. Right-click the underlined word, or press F7 to jump to the next mistake.

A menu lists suggestions, then Add to dictionary and Ignore. Click a suggestion to replace the word. Add to dictionary stops the word being underlined. Ignore leaves the word as written for now.

What you get

Mistakes are fixed or accepted, and the underline goes away.

Watch out for

  • The checker only suggests. It never changes a word on its own.
