Application HomeCreate your first project
Create a project with a title and a type, and open its Home page.
Before you start
- OpenFrame Studio is open on the empty Application Home, after the welcome and library steps.
Steps
On Application Home, click Create Project.
The page says: A project holds your ideas, Beat Board, screenplay and production plan for one film. Everything is stored on this computer. The other two buttons are for later: Open Existing Project opens a project you already have, and Restore Backup or Package… opens a backup or package file.
The New Project dialog opens. It asks: What is this project called and what type is it? Click in the Title * box.
Title * is required. Under Type * you choose Feature Film, which is selected when the dialog opens, or Short Film. Create stays greyed out until you type a title.
If you leave Title * empty, the message A title is required. shows under the box and Create stays greyed out. Type a title to continue.
This is the same dialog with nothing in the title box. Nothing is created until you give the project a title.
Type a title, for example Empty Short, and click Short Film if that is what you are making.
The type you pick is kept as the project type. You can change the type, and every other detail, later in Project settings. Create is now ready.
If you want to add more now, click OPTIONAL DETAILS to open it.
It opens Language, Genre and Creator, plus a line called Saved in with a Change… button. Saved in is the folder where the project will be created. Click Change… to pick a different folder. A note says: You can add or change any of this later. You do not need it to start writing.
Click Create.
The dialog closes and the new project opens. Cancel closes the dialog and creates nothing.
Look at the new project's Home page.
It says Start with your ideas, build your story, or open a screenplay. Three cards offer Open Idea Vault, Build Story and Write/Import Screenplay. You can move between them at any time. See the Project window and navigation tutorials.
What you get
A new project, saved in the folder you chose, is open on its Home page.
Watch out for
- The title is required. Without one, Create stays greyed out and the dialog shows A title is required.
- Check Saved in under OPTIONAL DETAILS if you want the project somewhere other than the usual folder.
