Story

Choose what a minimized card shows

Change a card from a bare line to a card with heading, location, day or night and status markers.

Intermediate4 stepsMac

Before you start

  • The Beat Board has scene cards.

Steps

  1. Click More at the right of the toolbar and choose Card Display Settings….

The More menu also holds Apply Board Order to Screenplay… and Export Outline.

  2. In the sheet, choose a Preset: Minimal, Story, Production or Custom.

The sheet says: Choose what minimized Scene Cards show. This changes only your view; the story and the screenplay stay exactly as they are. Minimal shows the short description with small markers for a heading and comments. Story adds the heading, the start of the long description, notes and characters. Production shows the heading, location, day or night, attachments, revisions, breakdown and shots. Custom is any mix of the boxes.

  3. Choose Production, or tick boxes under Show on minimized cards, then click Done.

The boxes are Scene Heading, Short Description, Long Description Preview, Notes, Attachments, Character Count, Location, Day/Night, Comments, Revision/Change, Breakdown Status and Shot/Storyboard Status. Ticking a box switches the preset to Custom. Open a card to read and edit everything it holds.

  4. Look at the board.

A card now shows its heading, its short description and a line such as Bus Stop · NIGHT.

What you get

Cards show the details you chose. The story and screenplay are unchanged.

Watch out for

  • Card Display Settings change your view only. They do not change any card.
