Budget

Read the budget

Understand the three tiles and the lines table.

Beginner3 stepsWindows

Before you start

  • The budget has at least one line.

Steps

  1. Read the three tiles across the top.

PLANNED shows ₹12,59,000, the sum of every Planned amount, with Sum of the Planned amounts and 0% contingency ₹0. ACTUAL shows ₹4,92,000, with 2 of 6 lines have an Actual amount, so only two lines have been spent so far. DIFFERENCE shows ₹23,000 under plan, which is Planned minus Actual over those two lines only, not over the whole budget. Amounts are shown in your budget currency.

  2. Read the table row by row.

Each line shows its category, the line item, Planned and Actual. A line with no Actual says Not entered, and its DIFFERENCE says Not spent yet. A line that cost less than planned says, for example, ₹30,000 under plan. One that cost more says, for example, ₹7,000 over plan. The words, not only the colour, tell you which way it went.

  3. Look at the rows under each category and at the bottom.

Each category ends with its own total, for example Cast total. The last row, All lines, gives ₹12,59,000 planned, ₹4,92,000 actual and ₹23,000 under plan. The categories are Cast, Crew, Locations, Equipment, Art/Props, Travel/Transport, Food, Post/Other and Contingency. A category with no lines is not shown.

What you get

You know how much is planned, how much is spent and where the budget stands.

Watch out for

  • The Difference only covers lines with an Actual amount. A budget that looks under plan can still run over when the other lines are spent.
