Screenplay

Bring in an existing screenplay

Import a script from a file, pasted text or a sample, and check how it was read before it is added.

Beginner3 stepsMac

Before you start

  • A project is open.

Steps

  1. Choose Screenplay Tools, then Import and Export, then Import Screenplay…. The File menu has the same command, Command-Shift-I.

The sheet asks: What existing script do you want to bring into OpenFrame? Three steps are shown: 1 Select source, 2 Preview interpretation, 3 Import. Under Screenplay file, click Browse… and pick a PDF, Final Draft (.fdx), Fountain, TXT or DOCX file. Or paste the text into Screenplay text, or open a sample script: Example Feature, Example Short, Example Scene or FDX Interchange Test.

  2. Click Preview.

The sheet shows how OpenFrame read the script before anything changes. Cancel closes the sheet. A note says: Importing never replaces your current screenplay. If one exists, the script arrives as a new screenplay or a new draft.

  3. After the import, read the notice.

It reads Imported screenplay “LOST PROPERTY” with Undo and Dismiss. Click Undo if you imported by mistake.

What you get

The script is in your project as a new screenplay or a new draft.

Watch out for

  • Always read the preview. A PDF import is best effort. If it looks wrong, try the Fountain or .fdx of the same script.
  • Your current screenplay is never replaced.
